Land & Lake Plan

Council approved the Land and Lake Plan on August 9, 2023 through Council Report DSR-105-23.

The Land and Lake Plan is a master plan that combines an update to the previous Parks & Recreation Plan (Land Plan) and a Lake Simcoe Enjoyment Strategy (Lake Plan). The plan also includes an update to the Trails Master Plan.

What does this mean for you? Well, Innisfil's parks, waterfront, trails, and recreation programs are only going to get more awesome!

We've gathered feedback from residents to create a vision for our future, which sets goals and objectives for:

  • New parks within neighbourhoods
  • Improvements to current parks
  • Better lake access
  • Enhancements to activities within our parks
  • Recreation services

Specifically, the plan defines needs and identifies what should be provided, where it should be located, when it'll be needed, and how it should be funded.

Final Plan

The final Land and Lake Plan was presented and approved by Council on August 9, 2023. You can watch the meeting on the Town's YouTube channel and review the documents:

Would be nice if there were more trails and if the trails could be more connected where possible. Would make for good hiking or biking from anywhere. It would also be nicer to make the beached wider as they are fairly small right now to accommodate more people The last thing would be to have more maintenance and cleaning of the parks as the ones we do have are nice but could be taken care of better

    Hi Jonathan,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read the Lake and Land Plan. We agree with you, this plan will assist with the big picture for making those trail plans and connections! Improved maintenance and cleaning of parks continue to be a focus of our Operations team.

    Have a great day,

    Meredith Goodwin

Please keep planting more trees everywhere. We need them!

Sandy asked about 1 year ago

    Hi Sandy,

We appreciate you taking the time to review the Land and Lake Plan. This is a great comment and I agree trees make for fabulous parks! We will continue to plant, as part of the Innisfil Beach Park improvements we have a goal to plant 1000 trees in that park alone! Trees will be planted in all new development parks.

Thanks and have a great day

How do you propose to institute a Lake Plan when the lake where I live is in dreadful shape with weeds, garbage on the shore, water that is "iffy" for swimming, and development on the shore that destroy natural filtering is rampant? You had better clean up the lake before even thinking about a Land and Lake Plan.

Innisfil is unique in that the east border of the municipality resides along the shore of Lake Simcoe. However, protecting Lake Simcoe is a shared responsibility between residents, businesses, all levels of government, conservation authorities, and other community groups. Work is happening at all levels, from our Stormwater Management Master Plan that will help manage the amount of phosphorous and other pollutants entering the water to the Province's Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.

I've haven't read the entire Draft Plan but two things: - The 10th Line: The 10th from the 25th and up needs shoulder re-pavement. Also, it would be great to have a biking path on either side, there seems to be extra width on the outer gravel area. - Rollerblading: Not much of a continuous area for skating with smoothish pavement. Hoping some thought is going into some kind of multi-use pathway. Skating through Innisfil Beach Park isn't conducive on summer weekends. I don't want to have to leave Innisfil to skate. Thanks

Good news! The Land and Lake Plan recommends a dedicated cycle lane and paved shoulder on 10th Line from Stroud to Lake Simcoe.

There are also many recommendations for off-road Multi-Use Trails. You can see all the trail recommendations starting on page 522 in Appendix 4 - Trails.

Why is there so much concrete being used, even to sit a bench on. I’d love to see more natural land and trees in my park, without metal umbrellas like 9th line park has … plant more trees! Also, with groomed trails (for wheelchairs), but not asphalt and concrete.

Sandy asked about 1 year ago

We are looking at adding trees to our parks and plantings. We do consider the operational impacts when updating our public spaces and look to make improvements that are both sustainable and low maintenance. The concrete pad for benches is standard and we include spaces for wheelchairs to ensure the bench can be secured and has a strong base, and level for wheelchairs.

We're sorry to hear you aren't fond of the umbrellas at Bon Secours (9th Line Beach), but we've also received feedback in the other direction. Sometimes it's hard to find consensus, but we appreciate your input and will keep it in mind throughout this process!

Has the Town thought about changing the tennis courts on Jan's Boulevard to 4 pickleball courts and leave the tennis courts at IBP as tennis courts? Multi purpose courts don't work out. During covid there were angry tennis players if a pickleball ball rolled onto their court. The high difference in nets is 2 inches, which is huge for all playing.

    Cindy asked 12 months ago

Thanks for providing your feedback. We understand the challenge, but multi-purpose courts are very cost-efficient and successful in many communities. We will continue to look at sharing these spaces and hope that residents can work together so public parks can be enjoyed by all recreational users.

Would be great to see a tennis court and basketball court at the Larter Park going into the Sleeping Lion subdivision.

    RS asked 9 months ago

Thanks for the feedback! There is a recommendation to add multi-purpose courts with tennis/pickleball and basketball in Innisfil - one is being considered for the park off Larter that will be referred to as "Larter Street Park".
