What is the Transit Master Plan?

The Innisfil Transit Master Plan is a 10-year plan that will support the evolution of transit services in Innisfil to meet our community’s current and future needsIt will explore the state of Innisfil Transit’s present-day on-demand ridesharing services and assess the future needs of the community.

    What is transit?

Public transit, or simply known as transit, is a system of group transport available for use by the publicThere are many different types of transit systems, including:

    • Fixed route: A service system managed on a set schedule, operated on established routes. Many of the traditional forms of group transport fall under this category, including trains and buses.

    • On-demand transitAllows riders to book trips between specific addresses or stops within a defined zone. On-demand transit does not follow a fixed schedule or route. Depending on the system, riders may book trips either by smartphone app, online, or by calling a booking agentAn example of this is the current Innisfil Transit system.

    • Paratransit:  service system that provides rides to individuals who cannot use fixed-route services for some or all of their travel because of a disability.

What are the key outcomes of this project?

    1. Assess the current transit system and future context for transit service

    1. Introduce future service concept options based on community feedback, feasibility, and cost

    1. Develop a plan that provides guidance, support, and steps to achieve the proposed recommendations

    1. Produce a final Innisfil Transit Master Plan to be presented to Innisfil Town Council for adoption

    What is Innisfil Transit?

The Town of Innisfil established its first municipal transit service, Innisfil Transit, in 2017. It is an on-demand ridesharing program provided through a partnership with Uber. While this service was met with some success since its launch, the Town recognizes the potential and need to grow further to meet the transit needs of residents.

How is the community being engaged as part of the Transit Master Plan?

The Town of Innisfil recognizes that the long-term success and adoption of the Transit Master Plan requires community engagement that is thorough and genuine. Meaningful engagement ensures that the voices of Innisfil residents, businesses, and organizations—the current and future users of our transit service—are heard and considered in the process. We take on this critical work through the following approach:

    1. Two rounds of community engagement in which we consult with the community through community surveys and involve the community in the process through in-person and virtual public open houses.
    2. Consult with key partners through Discovery Interviews to understand the current state and needs of transit in Innisfil.
    3. Inform the community of process progress through updates on Get Involved Innisfil, social media channels, and presentations to Town Council.

How is the Town of Innisfil taking on this work?
