We're excited to announce that a new park is coming to the Sleeping Lion development in Alcona: Larter Street Park. This neighbourhood park will be located at 980 Larter Street. Following the Town's Land and Lake Plan, our goal is to ensure this park offers an enjoyable, balanced, and practical environment for the local community.

Project Update

Consultation concluded on January 10, 2025. Thank you to everyone who participated in our poll and submitted park ideas. Here are the results of the Larter Street Park poll, ordered from most to least preferred park features:

  1. A multi-swing play area
  2. Shade structure (such as a gazebo)
  3. Traditional playground
  4. Naturalized playground
  5. Basketball court
  6. Outdoor fitness equipment
  7. Play climbers (alternatives to a playground)
  8. Pollinator garden
  9. Stage area
  10. Unique art installations

You can find a full summary of the responses received on our What We Heard Report.

What's next?

Our next steps involve working to integrate as many of the top features as possible into the design and procurement process for construction. We aim to finalize the design this year ensuring it meets all Town Standards and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements. We anticipate construction will begin in spring 2026. Once the design is completed, we'll notify all project subscribers!
