Where will Larter Street Park be located?

Larter Street Park will be located at 980 Larter Street, an area that is designated as parkland between Larter Street and Emberton Way within the Sleeping Lion development in Alcona.

I'm interested in a particular feature, but it's not part of the list. How come?

The purpose of this project is to help Town staff decide which park features are most wanted by the community at Larter Street Park.

Some features will automatically be included in the park's design which is why they are excluded from the list of options on the survey. These amenities include, but are not limited to:

    • Bike racks
    • Connecting trails
    • Park furnishings (benches, picnic tables)
    • Passive green space (size will depend on the space requirements of the selected amenities)
    • Waste bins

Other features are not being considered for this park as they are already available at nearby parks. Such amenities include, but are not limited to:

Finally, some features are currently outside of scope for this project given the available space at this location, operational and budgetary limitations, and/or possible impacts to the local community. Such amenities include, but are not limited to:

    • Baseball diamonds
    • Dog park
    • Outdoor rink
    • Parking
    • Pickleball courts
    • Pump track
    • Sports fields
    • Tennis courts
    • Volleyball courts
    • Washrooms

    What about pickleball?

There is much excitement around pickleball in our community and have heard your requests to include more pickleball courts at parks.

With pickleball, location is critical! Due to the physics of the ball hitting the paddle, the “pop” of pickleball is louder than other sports. Without noise barriers, this sound travels beyond the court and can disturb residents.

Since Larter Street Park is very close to homes, pickleball courts are not being considered as a feature for this park. The good news is that pickleball courts are coming to the Cookstown Community Park! We’re also carefully reviewing other potential sites for pickleball courts across town to ensure we can meet the needs of our community members without disturbing nearby homes.

Who can participate in this engagement opportunity?

We're looking to hear from property owners, tenants and community members within the Sleeping Lion development in Alcona. However, as with other Town engagement projects, all community members are welcome to participate.
